Year 11 Crossroads Camp

All senior students in Government schools are required to complete the 25 hour Personal Development and Health Education course called Crossroads. At Chester Hill High, in order to fulfil the requirements of this course, all Year 11 students will participate in a school camp from Wednesday 7th December to Friday 9th December 2011 with Outdoor Education Experience at the Morisset Centre. The centre is located near the township of Morriset on 120 acres of bushland with access to Dora Creek.

 

The program will be conducted by the staff at Outdoor Education Experience assisted by staff from our school. These camps have been operating for many years and seek to provide learning experiences which challenge students to develop a holistic approach to life within an outdoor recreational environment and caring community.

The Year 11 camp will cover the following content:

-   Personal future

-   Coping with change in relationships

-   Communication, negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution

-  Grief and loss

-  Rights and responsibilities, STDs, HIV/AIDS and blood borne viruses

-  Social issues concerning sexuality

-  Caring for myself in a drug-taking society

-  My values about drug use

-  The effects of drug use

-  Social issues and driving

 

The school will have exclusive use of the site and a program has been designed to include activities such as rockclimbing, fencing, archery, sailing, giant swing, hikin, canoeing and abseiling. The students will also be involved in small group activities such as; discussions, values statements, decision making, communication and developing resilience.

 

As part of the camp atmosphere students will also be expected to participate in the following areas:

-   Table setting and meal clean up duties

-   Maintaining rooms

-  Trivia competition

-  General discussion that questions life issues

 

Students will be travelling to and from the Conference Centre at Morriset by bus. They will be staying two nights in cabins. The facilities include spacious dining room, games room, meeting room, playing fields and riverfront access.

Payable at front office once students have received their permission notes.
