Chester Hill Scholarship Achievers Inspired By Professor of Business

On Chester Hill High School's Annual Presentation Day for High Achievers, Professor Tyrone Carlin presented School Captain and Dux, Christine Ma, and Alexandria Nunez, scholarships for the Bachelor of Commerce degree at Sydney University.

The scholarships are part of the Faculty of Business to unearth talent that exists at Chester Hill High and other local schools.

Professor Carlin was extremely impressed by the quality of the applications from Christina and Alexandria, both of whom were amongst a large number of 90 points or better ATAR achievers at Chester Hill High School.

Professor Carlin spoke passionately about students taking opportunities as "doors open" when you continue your education. He illustrated his point by giving the assembly four examples of recent technological advances he had encountered last week in his capacity as Acting Dean of the Faculty.

He spoke of Sydney University-developed "insider-trading" software currently being used by 25 stock exchanges around the world. He also mentioned "designer" robotic trains now used in the Pilbara region. Professor Carlin also spoke about "photon" computer chips, now available, that hold millions of times more information and give incredible increases in processing speeds. Lastly, he introduced us to developments in the wheat industry where crop disease can virtually be eliminated.

The Professor urged students to explore their opportunities and to never assume where the paths they take will lead.

He thanked Chester Hill High School for this chance to unveil aspects of the future.
